If you are a first time home buyer between 1/1/09 and 11/30/09 you can get $8,000 as a tax credit that does NOT have to be repaid!   You cannot have owned a home for the last three years and you must stay in the new home for three years.   The other critieria is that you must make less than $75,000 as a single or $150,000 as a married couple.   You can read more about this on an article about first time home buyers and also access the tax form you need to file.   It can be filed in either 2008 or 2009.
